This new build house was on the site of a former farm steading and the site had consent for 5 very similar houses, our client purchased one of the plots and then commissioned us to create a new family home for them. This involved a complete redesign and we started from scratch. The concept for this design was to take a modern slant on the traditional form and colour of a two storey rural farmhouse in Perth and Kinross, with two subservient wings that mimicked agricultural out buildings. The contrast between the sharp render and warm timber is punctuated at the entrance by local stone and through the clever use of clearstory glazing the family room roof appears to float.
