Situated a stone’s throw from the East Sands of St Andrews, this retrofit and extension project optimises the existing traditional townhouse for contemporary living. The contemporary extension to the rear employs large apertures and skylight to flood the living space with natural light and connect the interior to the private patio and garden space.

The proposal is carefully interlocked with the existing through the reuse of the stone acquired from the down takings of the external wall; with the naturally textured blonde sandstone being juxtaposed by the dark, smooth surfaces of the zinc cladding and grey slate, thus forming a dialogue between old and new.
